After time and frequent use, BTU meter have a tendency to drift. Flow meter drift can occur due to a handful of factors such as:
Aging
Internal Surface Deposits
Contamination
Severe Contact with Chemicals
Differences in Fluid Property
External Influences, e.g., temperature, pressure, vibration, etc.
Improper Use
All these factors can cause severe performance change in a flow meter, which in turn can lead to inaccurate measurements. It’s important to note, that while all these factors are critical to keep an eye out for, many times, changes in flow meters can occur without there being any visible reason. This is why frequent maintenance and calibration to a BTU meter is imperative.
